As you walk around the ballpark you capture glimpses of various activities. Concession staff is prepping food and setting up counters. Security is making their rounds. Broadcasters are preparing to call the game right down the hall from Renel who is preparing to announce. Players are taking BP with coaches on the field. With Spring Training just getting underway, the 2021 version of Fanfest continues today on KNBR 104.5 FM and 680 AM with RHP Kevin Gausman and IF Tommy La Stella scheduled to join Papa & Lund from 12–1 p.m. It all leads up to the main event tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 20 where front office execs, coaches and players will call in all day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to preview the 2021 season. In honor of Black History Month, we are spotlighting our Public Address announcer Renel Brooks-Moon who is entering her 22nd season with the San Francisco Giants.

Most affectionately known as “Renel,” she received a B.A. in English Literature from Mills College and began her career in Bay Area radio and television broadcasting. In 2000, Renel was honored to be chosen as the Public Address Announcer for the San Francisco Giants as the team found a new home at 24 Willie Mays Plaza. San Francisco Giants club President of Baseball Operations, Farhan Zaidi, announced today the club’s player development staff and affiliate staffs for the 2021 season. As previously announced, invitations have been sent to the Sacramento River Cats, Richmond Flying Squirrels, Eugene Emeralds and San Jose Giants pending the completion of the process.

Happy New Year! I hope you are safe and healthy and looking forward to the upcoming baseball season. While our state and country continue to face many challenges resulting from the pandemic, I am feeling more optimistic as vaccines begin to become available in our communities. We certainly have a ways to go until we get past the pandemic, but we are encouraged and can see a pathway to welcoming our fans back to Oracle Park.
